Land rover discovery 3 tdv6 turbo problem

Post by supra1994 » Mon Mar 30, 2015 8:41 am

Hi guys,
I wanto to say hello firstly. I am new on forum and I am seeking some help.
I have a land rover discovery 3 and engine fault on dashboard.
I have been told by local land rover specialists that i need new turbo and quoted me silly price £2500
Is it true that i need to replace turbo.
What else could I do to save some money and solve this turbo problem?

Hi,
It is common fault where the turbo of Land Rover/Range rover 2.7 tdv6 is not controlled properly.

The problem is with the VNT the control unit of turbocharger.

It tends to be blocked by carbon deposit.

Unfortunately to solve the problem the body of the car needs to be lifted up thus the lack of the access.

Many mechanics interpetate the codes wrongly. They try to exchange the turbo actuator. But the problem is with the VNT.

Quote of £2500 is definietely to high.

I know good people who do them a lot.

Land Rover 2.7 litre TDV6 engine fitt for Land Rover , Peugeot , Jaguar and maybe Citroën.

Land Rover version include a deeper high-capacity sump with improved baffles to maintain oil pressure at extreme off-road angles and multi-layered external seals to keep out dust, mud and water.

The engine is produced in Ford's Dagenham engine plant.

Land Rover 2.7 TDV6 turbo problems is a most common fault

If you are seeing blue smoke from the exhaust this means that your Land Rover engine is burning oil.

This smoke should not be confused with white smoke you will see when a car first starts up.

White smoke is just water that has collected while the car was parked

Blue smoke: valve seals gone, glow plug, stuck pcv valve,

Blue smoke from exhaust
- your engine is probably worn if it is not the valve seals or the PCV valve.

When the cylinder and or piston rings get worn, oil from beneath the piston can come up.

The oil gets mixed with the fuel and air and gets burnt creating the I thing blue smoke.

Land Rover Discovery 3 is very problematic.

Too many problems: EGR, turbo, engine injectors, boost sensor, maf sensor, electric problems and more

Turbo problems in Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 is quite often, this is most common fault in this vehicle.

If you don’t care about turbochargers (2 turbos difficult location for turbochargers replacement, you must lift up car shell and have very expensive tools!) you will have another problems for example EGRs, boost or MAF sensors and this will cause engine problems.

I love this car but very problematic

Any turbo problems for this car go to this link: https://www.24hac.co.uk/land-rover-turb ... ecialists/

Professional and very fast service compare to main dealer (will take 2 weeks!)

Your car will be done in 2-3 working days just for turbo regeneration and fitting service.
